Art Projects Revisited

Some of my past art projects...

Ode To Starbucks

The first project shown is my Ode To Starbucks book.  Using Starbucks bags and other stuff I collected from Starbucks over the previous years, I set to work on my tribute piece.  It's true, I love coffee and Starbucks this much to have created my own personal Ode.

The front cover is using the mermaid image from a bag of Starbucks anniversary blend coffee.  The pocket at the bottom was formed from a cardboard cup holder that I cut in half.

The little booklet on the left page of the next two pictures is from Starbucks and the African warrior is one of my stamped images along with images on the tag and envelope.

My favorite coffee at the time was Starbucks Mocha Java so I cut out the labels from the bags and put them inside these envelopes.  There is another Starbucks booklet tucked inside the top of this page which is actually the bottom of the bag.  The page on the right has another coffee label sticking out of the grass pocket.

You know when a bag is folded, the bottom of the bag forms a flap on one side of the bag?  Well, that flap is pulled open here on the left where I added other elements from my collection.

The page on the left spells out Starbucks and I also tucked in another cardboard holder in the seam between the pages.  The page on the right has my first attempt at embossing on metal where I stamped out the Starbucks logo and then pushed out the image from the reverse side.  It's crude, but cool.  I tucked in a Starbucks icecream coupon in the top of this page.

The last two pictures are the last pages in the book.  The left page is mimicking the tiled artwork found in most Starbucks back in the day.  And the image of the woman in the middle reminded me of the style Starbucks used on their mermaid.  The page on the right was a way for me to use some of the gift cards I recieved over the years and could not throw away.  A better look at them is shown in the next picture.

I attached the paper car shown right to a Starbucks stir stick and then attached it to the book with an elastic cord to give an interactive quality.  The car is actually a gift card holder.  Too bad they haven't made any more cute card holders since.

The following pictures are from a project that I wanted to do for some time, featuring winged things.  I took an actual childs hard board book about birds and covered it in black gesso and acrylics.  From there it was applying some of my favorite stamp images, papers and other found objects and artwork to assemble my Winged Things book.
